Millions of tourists visit the shores of the undeniable beauty of Jeju Island every year. But it’s not just the natural charms of the South Korean island that make it so appealing. When it comes to skincare, Jeju is the place with the purest ingredients in the world. Why? Because biodiversity is so incredible that it has become a UNESCO protected objective.
The lush volcanic island of Jeju, located south of mainland Korea, is an oasis of beauty. Popularly called the “Hawaii of Korea,” Jeju abounds in lush forests, stunning waterfalls, and perfect relief for hiking and exploration.
The volcanic soil of Jeju Island, combined with the humid subtropical climate, makes it one of the world’s most diverse botanical sites. Thus, Jeju has become a vibrant and essential natural resource for many Korean beauty brands.
A C C O J E is one of the skincare brands that went to Jeju Island in search of the perfect ingredients for their products. The goal? To add vitality and freshness to your daily skincare routine.
The products must be “Jeju Cosmetic Cert” certified to ensure that they meet the quality and purity standards imposed by the Jeju authorities.

What do these ingredients do for our skin, and how are they beneficial?
I thought it would be nice to take a short walk through the natural sights of Jeju Island, discussing, of course, the merits of the beauty ingredients we will find on our way.
Hallasan, considered the heart of Jeju County, is a latent volcano located in the center of the island, which plays a vital role in balancing the area’s ecosystem. More than 50 unique plant species in the world bloom here every year.
Star ingredient: volcanic rocks
Hallasan Volcano has been inactive for over 5,000 years. However, the clusters formed by the volcanic eruptions of that period abound in minerals beneficial to the skin. How does it work? By decongesting the pores and absorbing excess sebum with a mattifying effect.
Sanbangsan hot springs
We all know that hot springs are famous all over the world for their healing powers. But Jeju Island has something extra. Are you curious about what?
Star ingredient: volcanic water
Jeju Island is distinguished by the perfect balance between different minerals and trace elements dissolved in its volcanic waters. Thus, we find manganese and selenium with moisturizing and antioxidant benefits, zinc with an anti-inflammatory role, magnesium, and silicone for glowing and healthy skin, iron, and copper for cellular rejuvenation — a real invigorating mix, with W O W effects on any skin type.
. All A C C O J E products contain volcanic water extracted from a 420 m of depth to boost hydration and strengthen the skin’s natural protection system. Successfully fight aggressive external factors and pollutants!
The incredible women-diver Haenyeo
On Jeju Island, there is a community of women, some 80-90 years old, who dive to depths of more than 10 m to collect seaweed, shellfish, and other seafood in a unique way: without the help of masks oxygen – 7 hours a day, 90 days a year. Each dive begins with a prayer to the sea goddess Jamsugut, for protection and to help them have a rich capture.
Knowledge of marine life is carefully preserved and passed on to future generations from an early age. Girls start at the age of 6-7, in their families and schools, to learn the secrets of plants and marine life, as well as the secret of Haenyeo diving.
For me, they are, without a doubt, the soul of this island, through the example of female strength, dedication, and emancipation. Haenyeo culture has two crucial roles: it contributes to promoting the status of women in the community and supports ecological and sustainable fishing practices.
The A C C O J E anti-aging line supports the Haenyeo women’s community and environmental sustainability. The five seaweeds (Ecklonia Cava, Wakame, Hijiki, Mojaban, Velvet Horn) present in the cream’s composition are carefully selected and harvested by the women diver Haenyeo.
Seaweed is the secret of hydrated and wrinkle-free skin of women diver Haenyeo. After a day of diving in the scorching sun, their skin begins to look dull and dehydrated. So, at the end of the day, each female diver Haenyeo applies for a few minutes on their skin, a mixture of algae collected that day. Instantly, the skin begins to regain its vitality, feel supple, and have an extra glow.
Camellia Hill is the name of the biggest botanical garden in East Asia, which hosts hundreds of different plant species, luxuriant forests, and nature trails. Walk the wildflowers’ path, wander through the “Garden of the Heart,” sit for a while at the glass observatory, relax with a cappuccino, and admire the beautiful lotus pond.
Cone Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff
This intricate name belongs to a natural gem on the east coast of Jeju Island. With a height of 182 m, this natural fortress was formed 5000 years ago because of the underwater volcanic eruption. Due to its undeniable beauty and diverse flora, Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Crater became a natural reserve in 2000.
Star ingredient: Acanthopanax koreanum
It is one of the most extraordinary and beloved plants in Jeju. Why? Because of the 15 species of the genus Acanthopanax, A. koreanum grows only on Jeju island. It is used in traditional Korean medicine to treat diseases such as rheumatism, diabetes, or hepatitis.
Recent studies have shown the effectiveness of Acanthopanax koreanum extract on the skin too. Thus, it inhibits melanogenesis (production of excess pigment) and has anti-inflammatory properties.
The A C C O J E Reviving product line contains Acanthopanax koreanum extract and pine tree extract, which revitalizes dull and dry skin. You will soon get a supple, elastic, brighter, and healthier complexion!
Star ingredient: black radish
Black radish is known for its moisturizing and barrier properties against aggressive external factors. It can prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL), which makes it indispensable for dehydrated skin.
The A C C O J E Hydrating line includes toner, lotion, and face cream for nourishing and deeply hydrate damaged skin.
I’m curious! Have you ever been to Jeju? What did you like most, or what is your favorite ingredient on the island?
